Representation Matters
“Sometimes you have to see a physical manifestation of your dream. Otherwise, you have to hope, pray and try to conjure something in your mind to feel like it’s possible.” ~ Viola Davis.
I am a child of Urban Boston. Born and raised in Mattapan, I took the METCO bus to high school in Newton, but my heart always belonged to the city. The daughter of two Doctors of Education and urban public-school pioneers; empowering young people has always been part of the “family business.” I grew up on Liz Walker, 106 & Park and the Cosbys and when I was done in the classroom at Newton North, I would head home to my other teachers: MC Lyte, TuPac, Queen Latifah, Common, Biggie, Lauryn Hill and all the other giants of early and 90s Hip Hop.
I am the product of the #1 ranked Public HBCU (FAMU) and #1 communication school in the country (Emerson), which molded me and laid the foundation for my journey and lifelong commitment as an exceptional communicator, community champion and collaborator. I am a Black woman who believes in the power of mentorship because I have been poured into with the, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley coined, “righteous rage and radical love,” of the countless Black women who have grounded, mentored, and inspired me in this work. A career spanning 20 years, working on behalf of, for and with BIPOC girls and women.
A career that continues to evolve today ….
